Detailing chemicals are effective because they are formulated to do a specific job, and that means they need to be handled with care. This page covers the basics and tells you where to find full safety information for anything we sell.
Safety data sheets and CLP labelling
Every chemical we sell is supplied with a safety data sheet and labelled in line with the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) regulation. The safety data sheet gives full information on composition, hazards, handling, storage and first aid. If you cannot find the safety data sheet for a product you have bought, email us and we will send it to you.
Never mix chemicals
Never mix detailing chemicals with each other or with any other household or trade product. Mixing chemicals, particularly acidic and alkaline products, can produce dangerous reactions and harmful fumes. Rinse equipment thoroughly between different products and store chemicals separately.
Personal protective equipment
Wear nitrile gloves and eye protection whenever you are handling concentrates, diluting products or working with stronger acid or alkaline chemicals such as some wheel cleaners and traffic film removers. Work in a well ventilated area and avoid contact with skin and eyes.
Dilution and pH
Every chemical listing states its pH and its recommended dilution ratio, along with what surfaces it is safe on. Measure dilutions rather than guessing, and check a product is suitable for the surface before you use it. See our detailing guide for more on dilution and pH in practice.
Storage
Store chemicals upright, in their original containers, out of direct sunlight and away from extremes of temperature. Keep concentrates and diluted solutions out of reach of children and pets, and keep lids and caps closed when not in use.
Spills and first aid
Follow the first aid guidance on the product label and safety data sheet if a chemical comes into contact with skin or eyes, or if it is swallowed. For a serious reaction, seek medical attention and take the safety data sheet or product label with you.
Business customers
If you run a valeting or detailing business, you are responsible for carrying out your own risk assessment, such as a COSHH assessment in the UK, for the chemicals you use. Safety data sheets for every product we sell are available on request to support that assessment.
